Go Cats, Go You, Go Class of ’22!

Could you imagine Christmas coming twice a year? It does here at Villanova! That warm, jittery feeling that makes you too excited to sleep, the overwhelming excitement that almost everyone is enveloped with on Christmas comes to Villanova’s campus for Early Action Candidates’ Day. Once you experience this Villanova holiday, you will never want to leave!

Early Action Candidates’ Day has been perfected over the years to provide the perfect glimpse into the Nova Nation for admitted students. It allows you to see where you fit in at your “new home” through the various events planned throughout the weekend. Some of our featured events include going to a first-year class, grabbing dinner with Blue Key members in their blue shirts and going on campus tours. You’ll have an amazing time no matter what you do, and you’ll feel like a real student here. You may even fall in love with the school!32726201801_a5c4fa7f15_o.jpg

This will be my fourth Early Action Candidates’ Day, and each one has brought me so many memorable experiences. My first was during my senior year in high school, and it may have been hard to wake up early on that cold Saturday morning, but I was soon jolted awake in the best way possible. As we drove down Lancaster Avenue, there were what seemed to be hundreds of students, all showing off their Nova spirit. The energy and excitement that was displayed by these students was electric! They had signs that said “It’s a great day to be a Wildcat” and “Welcome Wildkittens,” and all the while they were screaming with excitement and glee. So much passion, excitement and energy were on display. It captured my heart, and I knew that I had to call this my new home. There was a positive, loving energy around campus, and I could tell that the students were passionate about the school and their fellow classmates. It really felt like a fantastic community!

The next two years I was involved in Early Action Candidates’ Day as a Blue Key member and Candidates’ Day Committee member. I loved getting to know the admitted students through dinners and tours. Perhaps the most outstanding moments were talking to students on campus who ended up coming to Villanova because they talked to me. It warms my heart that my passion, energy and love for Villanova can be passed to a new generation of Wildcats!

But this year is special—I am serving as the co-chair for Candidates’ Day, meaning that I am one of two students who make sure everything is executed perfectly. I help make sure our Blue Key volunteers are in the right places, tours are leaving promptly, campus is decorated perfectly, clubs are present at the Activities Fair and performances are phenomenal. My job is to cultivate all these experiences for you, the admitted students, to welcome you to the Nova Nation and make sure you feel at home. I hope you enjoy the opportunity to get to know the Nova Nation, and if you see me around, say hi!

Talking about Candidates’ Day still gives me the chills. Love and excitement permeate from everyone involved. You could tell Villanova students genuinely love being at this school (not only this day, but every day). Please come and experience the ultimate Villanova holiday for yourself. I can promise you that you will not be disappointed.

Go Cats, go you, go Class of 2022! We CANNOT wait to see your shining faces here on campus!IMG_9082.jpeg

Welcome to My Home: Going Nova

Tick, tock, tick, tock!! The countdown to Early Action Candidates’ Day is always filled with much anticipation, overwhelming excitement, and as much Villanova “hype” as one could imagine. Have you been invited to this Villanova holiday? Then CONGRATULATIONS!! Getting admitted early is a great accomplishment, and we invite you to come and see all that Villanova has to offer!

Early Action Candidates’ Weekend has been designed as a way to show potential members (i.e. you!) of the Class of 2021 what could very well be their “New Home,” with many activities and events planned. While there is never a dull moment on campus, this weekend is especially jam-packed with many activities and events so you could potentially see yourself here. On Friday, you will have the opportunity to sit in a real college class and grab dinner at either Donohue Court or Dougherty Hall with members of the Blue Key Society and the Ambassadors. They will be around all weekend in their navy and light blue polo shirts—don’t hesitate to stop and ask them a question about anything!

Saturday is the main stage, and the events that I experienced two years ago when I was a high school senior helped me fall head over heels in love with Villanova. It certainly was hard to wake up early on a Saturday morning, but my family and I hopped in the car and off we went to Villanova! As we approached the school, Nova Nation was on full display, with so many students braving the cold  to welcome everyone. I remember looking around and telling my parents the only word I could think of… “WOW.” The car windows may have been frosty, but the energy and excitement was as warm as a fire. From that moment on, seeing all the kids holding signs saying “Peace, Love, Cats” and “We’ve Got a Blank Space, Candidates, So Come Write Your Name!,” hearing them cheering with glee and excitement, I knew where I needed to spend my next four years! As we kept driving, my mom rolled down her window to start high-fiving those braving the cold and my dad started honking the horn. I was momentarily mortified, but as I saw the Nova Nationers out there getting so excited by these actions, I started to put my “V” up, too! With all this excitement, passion, and energy, I decided that I would be out on Lancaster Avenue, welcoming students to Villanova in a year’s time,  (Spoiler alert: I was!)

Despite the tundra like atmosphere, we were instantly enveloped in a positive, loving energy. It truly serves as the perfect welcome into the Nova Nation! I just got this feeling, realizing that I wanted to go to a school where students are just like family, that are passionate and energetic, that love their school and their fellow classmates so much! My mom and I took a selfie once we got into the Pavilion to celebrate this occasion!

As much as I wanted to continue with the festivities of the day, snow began falling. Because of this, we had to cut our visit short and start heading home so we would not get trapped in the snow. We did not go on a campus tour or see a current freshman’s room or head to the Activities Fair, but we were able to learn how pretty campus is with snow on the ground!

Experiencing the events of Candidates’ Day as a member of the Blue Key Society last year really cemented my love for this special day. Eating meals with prospective families, chatting and getting to know them, and telling them about Villanova really warmed my heart on Friday. Getting up early on Saturday morning was not a challenge a year later—rather, I couldn’t fall asleep because I was so excited! The day flew by in a whirlwind—yes, it was still freezing, but I never felt cold because of all the excitement of the events around me! Giving a tour, helping families get to various events, and smiling at everyone I encountered were highlights of a spectacular day.

Sitting here writing this, I know that words cannot describe the experience fully. Please come to Early Action Candidates’ Day so that you can experience it for yourself. Welcome to the most spirited university in the world. Welcome to the most energetic, love-filled community. Welcome to a place that stresses the ideals of truth, unity, and love. Welcome to my home. Hopefully, it will be your home too!
